Jack Eichel, the projected top 2 draft pick in 2015 NHL Draft and past Pertti Hockey Camper, was named Captain of Team USA for the World Junior Championships tournament this year.
Although Team USA did not go as far in the tournament as they would have liked, Eichel’s performance met expectations of the audience and scouts around the world. He finished the tournament with one goal and four assists in five games. It was his ability to create opportunities and control all facets of the game that was most apparent.
Eichel skated with us at various camp sessions over the past two years. His stickhandling and skating skills are above and beyond, making him a shoe in first-rounder for the draft. We were immediately impressed with him during reaching-focused and power-stride drills. We encourage all of our campers to watch Eichel whenever you can and focus on how he uses reaching to protect the puck and create space between himself and his defenders.
